By Chhetu Sherpa, Kathamndu, Apr.28: Seven airports will have an 18-hours service from today.
According to Chandralal Karna, Spokesperson of the Civil
Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the 18 hours of service will be delivered
at the Chandragadi, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Simara, Bhairahawa, Dhangadi, and
Nepalgunj airports.
He said, “Service hours were extended by six hours bearing
in mind the convenience of the service recipients. Earlier, airports were
operating for only 12 hours.” The CAAN has stated that the service period
has to be extended to reduce the pressure of passengers on the airline.
“Because of the short time period of service, passengers
complained about air traffic, unable to get tickets on time because of limited
flights. With the extension of the service time, airlines are also preparing to
increase the number of flights,” said Sudarshan Bartaula, Spokesperson of
Yeti Airlines.
CAAN informed that late-hours service and emergency services
will also be delivered with the addition of the service time and a number of
flights. However, most of these airports are operated on a visual flight rules
(VFR) system and not on an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) system, therefore,
flights need to be operated in daylight.
Currently, 36 out of 56 airports are in operation.
