SAG gold medalist Maharjan advances

Kathmandu, Apr 22 : The 13th SAG gold medallist Minu Maharjan continued her domination in the women’s 51 kg as she advanced into the semifinals at the Ganeshman Singh Memorial National Boxing Tournament in Kathmandu on Thursday. 

Gurung defeated Ashmita Duwal of Bagmati to advance. 

Maya Khatri also joined the gold medalist Maharjan in the last four after knocking out Soniya Shetty of Sudurpaschim Province in the quarterfinals.

Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club and Sushmita Rai of Province 1 booked their spot at the last four at 57kg. Similarly, Sangita Sunar of APF enjoyed the walkover in the quarterfinal of 60kg. Narika Rai, in the same category, also secured her semis berth. Junmaya Tharu of Lumbini Province progressed to the last four of the women’s 69 kg. 

Similarly, Saugat Kumal of Gandaki Province and Puran Rai of Armed Police Force (APF) cruised into the semifinals in the men’s 57 kg weight category in the capital on Thursday. 

Madan Krishna Dangol of Madesh Province secured his spot at the last four of the men’s 52 kg. Pradeep Maharjan of AFP also joined Dangol in the last four.

Puran Sunwar of the Army and Anil Pun Magar of Lumbini Province also advanced into the semifinal of the men’s 63 kg weight category. 

Likewise, Dan Bahadur Darlami of the Army and Shrish Khanal of Bagmati Province advanced in the semis of 69kg. Khanal enjoyed a walkover while Darlami won his quarterfinal bout.

Dil Raj Bhandari of Karnali Province and Sanam Gurung of Province No. 1 also cruised into the semifinals of the 75 kg. 

In the 81 kg, Roshan Syangtang of Bagmati Province and Shyam Bahadur Mahat of Sudurpaschim secured their spot in the last four. 

Ganesh Pradhan of Army and Prashish Ruchal of Province No.1 booked their place in the semifinals of the 91 kg.
