CAN InfoTech kicks off in capital

Kathmandu, Apr 21 : The CAN InfoTech, a mega event of Nepal's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has kicked off today.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki inaugurated the fair during a function.

On the occasion, Minister Karki said that digital technology has brought information within reach and it should reach every corner of the country.

 He added that the government always stands ready to collaborate with the private sectors for the development and spread of digital technology and is committed to providing necessary resources for that. He praised the contribution of CAN to connecting people through digital technology.

The 27th edition of the technological exhibition organized by CAN Federation at Bhrikutimandap Exhibition Hall, Kathmandu, features different ICT sections, including, branding, fintech, accessories, product launching, startups and innovation and e-governance.  

Hem Raj Dhakal, managing director of IME group, said that we should work to develop the country as the brain lead country to make a global presence and attract international companies to bring in foreign currencies. He stressed the necessity of digital infrastructure and investment in IT entrepreneurship. 

CAN Federation President Nawaraj Kunwar, FNCCI President Shekhar Golchha, Chairman of Telecom Authority of Nepal Purushottam Khanal, Chairman of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Rajendra Malla, Director General of Department of Information Technology Prem Sharan Shrestha, and others were present at the function. 

As many as 170 stalls related to IT products and services are displayed at the fair. About 400,000 people are expected to visit the fair. The entrance fee is Rs.1. The IME pay is the title sponsor for the six-day event and Smart Choice Technology is the co-partner for CAN InfoTech, according to the CAN Federation.

The association has hosted the exhibition physically for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will end on April 25.
