Gandaki, April 19: The seventh national agriculture census has begun today. Every agricultural activity including details of families involved in agriculture would be incorporated during the census.

The Central Bureau of Statistics has been conducting a national agriculture census every 10 years since 2018 BS in the country.

Data was collected from April 8 to 15 as per the government's target to focus on modernization and commercialization of agriculture by finding the real statistics of the agro sector. The census would run till June 2.

Around 350,000 families were selected by scientific methods at 753 local levels of seven provinces in the country in order to collect facts and details about the agro sector, contributing one-fourth of the total gross domestic product of the country.

A target has been set that the census, which began under the slogan ' Essence of Agricultural Census, Infrastructure of Agricultural Planning', would make the agro sector more systematic and effective in the coming days.

In the seventh national agriculture census, enumerators would collect the number of livestock, the condition of buildings and infrastructures used in agricultural activities, details of the production of main crops, seeds, use of pesticides and fertilizer and among others.

Details of main agro production and productivity in community, condition and remuneration of agricultural-related workers, impacts of disaster in community, service, facility, agro markets and development construction projects would be collected, said Gandaki Province Agricultural Census officer, Jagu Basyal.

He shared that the statistics received from the agro census would help the development and prosperity of the agro sector.
