Corruption would imperil country if not curbed: Speaker Sapkota

blog

Kathmandu, April 17 (RSS): Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota has called for a collective resolution to curb the continuously increasing corruption in the country, warning that it would imperil the country if not controlled.

Inaugurating a cartoon exhibition themed 'Nisana' (Target) here today, Speaker Sapkota said that the exhibition's cartoons sketched on an anti-corruption theme had heartily inspired him to fight against corruption.

Sapkota also pledged to fight against corruption as much as he could. "A cartoon is not a mere sketch drawn by pen. It is drawn by heart to portray and reflect society. I express my solidarity by supporting the campaign," he said.

The Speaker opined that corruption was not only about misappropriation of the budget, he argued, it was also a matter linked with nationality. "If we don't curb corruption, it will eventually jeopardize our country."

The cartoon exhibition is organized by the Cartoonists' Club of Nepal (CCN) and features 50 cartoons by 36 cartoonists. It will run for three days at the Nepal Art Council.

The exhibition aims to generate awareness against corruption, said the president of CCN, Basu Khsitiz.
