Ilam, March 11: Rong rural municipality of Ilam district has provided orientation to 121 leading farmers. The farmers selected as 'guru kisan' (leading farmers) from among 4,500 farmers got the first phase of training so that they would devote to increasing productivity. Rural municipality Chairman Mani Kumar Syangbo informed that the orientation was provided to the leading farmers in order to foster competitiveness among them in cultivation and production.They were training on their roles and responsibilities for better farming. The number would be gradually increased because more farmers need additional skills and knowledge on agriculture, Rai added.The scheme envisioned last year would be formalized with the announcement of 'guru kisan' on March 20. It is first of its kind in Nepal, according to him.One of the farmers attending the orientation, Man Bahadur Rai from Badare of Rong-1, informed that he produced 15 maan of black cardamom in 12 ropanies of land. "Once irrigation and fertilizer are applied properly, it would give much yields even in a small area," he said, adding that he had aimed at increasing the produce next year.Earlier, it was difficult for most of the farmers here to produce 10 maan of cardamom in as large as 30 ropanies of land.Vice Chairman of the rural municipality, Bishnu Maya Bhujel, informed that the orientation would not only make farmers competitive but also ensure self-sufficiency of cash crops in village. By Pahalman Gharti, Rolpa, Mar.11: A former ward chair of Rolpa district has passed away in Russia while fighting in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.It is reported that Tirkha Bahadur Budhathoki, former ward chair of Jaimakasala of Sunchhahari Rural Municipality -5, has passed away while fighting in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.According to family source, Budhathoki was recruited in the Russian Army in September 2023. Budhathoki had called his relatives on the phone and through social media, Facebook Messenger, to tell them that his life was in danger due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The family only learned of Budhathoki's death on March 8, 2025. The family was worried after losing contact for a few weeks. The news of Budhathoki's death was made public on the social media network Facebook on Monday evening through relatives and friends. As per social tradition, a funeral service, kiriya, has been held at Budhathoki's house since Monday for the deceased's final resting place after receiving the news. Kiriya is the funeral rites observed in the first 13 days of someone's death as per Hindu tradition in Nepal. Family sources said that the chances of bringing the body of the deceased to Nepal are slim as the house has already been ravaged.Former Chairperson of Sunchhahari Rural Municipality Aash Bahadur Pun expressed his condolences through social media, saying that the incident of Budhathoki's death is very saddening.
Bhojpur, March 11: The Sanodumma Secondary School located at Pauwadungma rural municipality has set up an e-learning centre in a bid to make teaching learning technology friendly.The Ishwor Mandir Kathmandu Campaign supported the establishment of e-learning centre at the school in a remote hilly district. It provided 20 desktop computers, a smart TV set and a WIFI set to the school.General Secretary of the Campaign, Sanket Koirala, informed that the e-learning facility was set up by bringing the educational materials worth Rs 800 thousands. The e-learning facility would help both teachers and students learn in a convenient manner and whet knowledge on technology as well, hoped Principal Khagendra Dhakal. The new service would be utilized based on need, he added.He further expressed, "We've been able to have such modern facility at our school. It tremendously helps us cater tech-friendly knowledge."Similarly, Chairman of Puwadungma rural municipality, Kiran Rai, believed the new scheme at school would be utilized equally by the teachers and students both. The social reform starts from the reform in school, so the assistance counts much, he observed. He further shared that the local level had forwarded plans to cater life skills to the people. "In addition to building physical infrastructures for schools, we are focusing on modern quality education with the help of various agencies," Rai added.According to him, all 32 community schools in the local level would have tech-friendly libraries.Moreover, former finance minister Shankar Koirala observed that it was imperative to make our teaching learning tech-friendly to keep abreast with the stride in science and technology. The Ishwor Mandir Kathmandu Campaign extended assistance to the schools so they could improve their teaching methodology.It is necessary to ensure technological skills and facility to the students of remote schools so that they would be able to reap benefits from it, he added.The organization established in 2056BS has been extending support to various schools for long.
