Additional classrooms built for Siddhartha Gautam School
An extension construction for the Siddhartha Gautam Basic School, located at Gaidahawa Rural Municipality in Rupandehi district, was inaugurated amidst a ceremony on Sunday. With the support from Korean donors, the Um Hong Gil Human Foundation (UHGHF) built the new school infrastructure. The expanded RCC construction includes eight child-friendly classrooms on the top floor of the existing school building, according to a press release issued by UHGHF. Around 500 people, including Captain Um Hong Gil, the Executive Director of UHGHF, Chairman of Gaidahawa Rural Municipality Surendra Paudyal, students of the school and parents attended the inaugural ceremony. With this extension, UHGHF is planning to renovate the existing eight classrooms of the ground floor and toilet building as well. These structures were built with the financial and technical support of UHGHF back in 2012. At that time school has around 200 students but now it is serving around 380 students of nearby areas.
Promotion of industry top priority of government: Minister Rijal
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ramesh Rijal has said that the government is serious about solving the problems noticed in the industrial sector. Inaugurating the 18th annual general meeting and the 10th convention of the Federation of Industries in Nepal Industrial Estate in the capital, Minister Rijal said that the government was ready to provide necessary support for the promotion and development of industries. He also added that the development and promotion of industry was the highest priority of the government. He criticised the Industrial District Management Limited for holding the amount to be spent on infrastructure development in a bank account and earning interest.
Extensive apple garden in Jumla, above 28,000 apple trees in one garden
Extensive commercial apple farming has started in Jumla which has economic potential for apple farming. Farmers have started planting apple saplings commercially with a view to be strong economically. Around 35,000 apple plants have been planted in Gutichaur Agro Farm which is operated in Jaljala, Dhapada and Kadakhola under the leadership of Min Bahadur Bhandari, a farmer of Gutichaur Rural Municipality-5, Jumla. Around 28,000 apple trees have been planted in one place.
Contribution-based social security plan to be enacted from next FY: PM
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' pledged to compulsorily and strictly implement the Contribution-based Social Security Scheme from upcoming fiscal year. In his message to all Nepali workers at home and abroad on the occasion of the International Labour Day, also known as May Day and International Workers' Day, here today, PM Dahal reiterated he will take initiation to strictly and compulsorily enforce the Scheme in industries, factories and offices. In the message, PM Prachanda vowed to incorporate at least 2 per cent workers for the awards and honours annually conferred by various organs of the State.
President returns home after treatment in India
President Ram Chandra Paudel has returned home from India after receiving treatment. Spokesperson for the President’s Office, Sagar Acharya, in a statement, said that the President arrived in Kathmandu on a flight of the Nepal Airlines on Sunday. The President returned home after he was discharged from India's New Delhi-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he was undergoing medical treatment. He was discharged after his health situation improved significantly. He was admitted to AIIMS on April 19. Acharya informed that doctors have suggested President Paudel take rest for a few weeks.
Pre-monsoon rains bring respite to farmers
A prolonged winter drought that hit hard agriculture sector is now having some relief and experiencing positive signs after a good shower on Saturday and Sunday, thanks to the impact of the local and westerly winds as well as the low-pressure trough that developed in the country. Farmers were impatiently waiting for the rains as their crops were drying out. Devi Prasad Acharya of Ilam-11 said the rain had come as a good relief. The maze plants were dying because of the long drought but with the rain some of them have a chance to survive and produce corn, he said over the phone. Ilam received good rainfall on Sunday. Rupesh Yadav, a BBA third-semester student, said that he could breathe freely as a good rain occurred in Kathmandu. “I could barely go outside in the past month due to increasing pollution level in Kathmandu. I was waiting for a good shower so that the rain could control the forest fires and wash away the dust over the sky of Kathmandu. I am enjoying the cool rain,” Yadav, who hails from Janakpur, said. The pre-monsoon rainfall has helped in decreasing the temperature of the Terai districts, which had crossed 40 degrees Celsius in the past weeks.

PM Prachanda assures to address demands of microfinance sufferers
Kathmandu, April 30: Agast Adhikari, who had been waging a hunger strike representing the sufferers of microfinance, has stopped the strike after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' assured to address problems. Adhikari met PM Prchanda on Sunday. He however warned of resuming the hunger strike at Basantapur if the demands were not met. PM Prachanda held a discussion with chairman of the struggle committee against microfinance, Punaram Gyawali, and members of network of six farmers' associations. In the meeting, PM Prachanda assured to address the demands of the people suffered by the microfinance. The struggle committee demanded the government that it addressed their problems from policy level. Forthcoming policy and budget of the government could address this serious issue, the committee argued. Gyawali informed that they stopped agitation programmes after holding discussion with PM Prachanda. (RSS)
