Chitwan, March 23: The PPR vaccine campaign is being run in all seven local levels in Chitwan district from the next week. Around 250,000 goats will be vaccinated under the programme, the District Livestock Service Office said. The campaign is aimed at controlling the PPR disease in goats in the district. According to research papers, PPR is an economically important trans-boundary disease of sheep and goats caused due to Morbillivirus genus in the family Paramyxoviridae virus, and Nepal had experienced several episodes of PPR outbreaks in the past. The Chief of Office, Dr Pravat Neupane, said that nearly 50 to 90 percent of total goats succumb to this disease by developing the symptoms of high fever, pneumonia, wounds and others. (RSS)
