Lawmakers under proportional category have vital role: PM Shah

blog

Kathmandu, April 15: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has called on the lawmakers elected via proportional category to not limit themselves in a specific area but work for interest of the oppressed and marginalized people.

During a discussion held at PM's Office, Singha Durbar on Wednesday, PM Shah reminded that the lawmakers under proportional cluster had huge role and could contribute well in mainstreaming the marginalized community.

"You can devote to law making and development of entire nation. The directly elected people's representatives are focused on their constituencies, but you can work for broader goal," the PM reminded. PM Shah said proportional system is for making parliament full and inclusive. So, they could work confidently on law making and parliamentary coordination.

After some lawmakers viewed they were not treated as equally as the directly elected ones, PM Shah made it clear that it was not discrimination at all because a separate meeting was for in-depth discussion and understanding. It is also an initiative to address particular issues with special focus, he added.

The head of government also vowed collaboration for five years and stressed utilization of technology to address the problems. Digital medium was always open for receiving and hearing suggestion and follow up, according to him.(RSS)
