Koshi govt to rebuild storm-damaged structures

By Shashidhar Parajuli,Biratnagar, Mar. 27: The Koshi Province government has allocated Rs. 150 million to rebuild structures damaged by the recent storm.

According to government spokesperson Indramani Parajuli of the Province, the decision was made at a cabinet meeting held on Thursday at the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office.

The funds will be deposited into the Disaster Fund under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law to support reconstruction in areas affected by the floods and landslides on October 4 and 5, 2025 and the storm on March 15 and 16, 2026.

Parajuli said that the cabinet approved six decisions. Minister of Internal Affairs and Law, Indramani Parajuli confirmed that the meeting sanctioned the Provincial Building Regulations 2082 and approved the public holidays to be observed by the provincial government in 2083. In addition, the cabinet approved the financial equalisation grant, vehicle tax distribution, and set the limits for these allocations.

Public holidays observed across the province in 2083 include Siruwa Festival on April 15, Kojagrat Purnima on October 25, 2026, Phalgunanda Jayanti on November 11, and the conclusion of Chhath Festival on November 16. In Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, and Udayapur districts, a public holiday for the Radha Krishna Ratha Yatra has been set for September 5. Women across the province will observe Rishi Panchami as a holiday on September 15.

The province has also finalised community-specific public holidays. These include Sirijaat of the Dhimal community on June 16, Karmapuja of the Jhangad community on September 22, the Kulung Rai community’s Puja on December 30, Sohrai of the Santhal community on February 20, 2027, and Ladi Puja of the Majhi community on March 2, 2027.
