RSP’s Gyawali wins seat from Kailali-1

By Ikendra Timilsina, Tikapur, Komal Gyawali, the candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been elected to the House of Representatives from Kailali Constituency-1.

Gyawali secured 17,826 votes to win the seat. His closest rival Janak Raj Chaudhary of the Nepali Congress received 12,945 votes.

Chaudhary had previously been elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly in 2013 and later served as State Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration. He currently serves as the President of the Nepali Congress Sudur Pashchim Provincial Working Committee.

Ramlal Dagaura, who resigned from the post of Mayor of Tikapur Municipality to contest the election as a candidate of the Nepal Communist Party, secured 8,392 votes, while Dwarika Prasad Neupane of the CPN-UML received 4,493 votes.

Similarly, Dr Janak Raj Shah of the Progressive Democratic Party, who previously served as a member of the National Planning Commission, obtained 217 votes.

A total of 59,061 votes were cast in the constituency.

Gyawali, a 47-year-old businessperson with a bachelor’s degree in management, had recently joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party before the election. He had previously served as the founding central treasurer of the former Nagarik Unmukti Party.
