PM apprised of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama's situation

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 25: A delegation led by Chancellor Nisha Sharma and Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Rai of  the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama met Prime Minister Sushila Karki at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday. 

During the meeting, the delegation extended best wishes to the government formed under special circumstances, expressing hope that it would successfully accomplish its mandate, read a statement of the PM's secretariat. 

Prime Minister Karki is the ex-officio patron of the Academy.

On the occasion, Chancellor Sharma briefed the Prime Minister on the current status of the Academy and its action plans. 

She expressed concern that although research, preservation, and promotion of songs, music, and drama across the country are essential, these areas have not received due priority from the state.

She also informed that the Academy is currently operating from a temporary prefabricated structure and is seeking necessary resources for the construction of a permanent building. 

She further added that the Nepal Academy was further specialised in 2008 with the establishment of three separate academies, one of which is the Academy of Music and Drama.

Prime Minister Karki said that necessary initiatives would be taken in consultation with the concerned ministry and other relevant bodies.
