By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 6: Ashok Silwal’s new book ‘Everest’ has been launched at the International Mountain Museum (IMM) in Pokhara.
‘Everest’ subtitled ‘An Unfinished Story’ was launched by IMM’s Executive Director Nirmala Kumari Neupane in the presence of Silwal’s colleagues recently.
Welcoming both the author and the publication, Neupane said that, according to museum records, visitors from 105 countries who admire mountains, mountain life, and Himalayan culture have visited IMM.
Calling the museum a Himalayan pilgrimage site, she expressed that it was remarkable that Silwal, who is also a Langtang Ambassador, chose to launch ‘Everest’ there. She congratulated the author and said that his contribution to the promotion of Nepal’s tourism will always be remembered.
During the event, Silwal thanked the museum for its support toward both his work and his journey as a writer.
Silwal also handed over several copies of ‘Everest’ to the museum’s library and expressed happiness that his book had become a part of what he called a Himalayan sacred space.
Before being launched at IMM, the book had already been released in Kyanjin, the final settlement in the Langtang region located at an altitude of around 4,000 meters.
Although the book is centered around Mount Everest, Silwal described it as a grounded journey, a journey of personal experiences and spiritual depth.
‘Everest’ is Silwal’s fifth book.
His other publications include ‘Kalam,’ a critical exploration of journalism, ‘Lekhak Duniya,’ which delves into the world of literature, ‘Sri Lanka Smriti,’ a reflection on varied travel experiences and ‘App Deepo Bhava,’ a spiritually focused work based on Kailash. Silwal, who is also a tourism instructor and freelance journalist, is known for his work as a documentary filmmaker.
