Lahan, Oct 8: The Lahan Municipality, in collaboration with Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital, has been providing free treatment to its residents with eye problems for the past three years.

The municipality has stated that it has provided free treatment to 15,000 eye patients in the last three fiscal years. Among them, 2,000 people have undergone cataract surgery.

Inaugurating a free eye check-up camp held today at Dhodna, Lahan–15, Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary said, "We have continued this programme so that no citizen suffers from eye problems due to financial constraints. All expenses will be borne by the municipality. This year as well, the free eye treatment programme has been started from Ward No 15 and camps will be conducted in all 24 wards of the municipality."

At the programme, Chairperson of the Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital, Rabindra Lal Chaudhary, said that the hospital treats nearly 2.5 million eye patients each year.

He stated that the hospital, in collaboration with various local levels, is continuously conducting eye check-up camps with skilled personnel and technology.

Hospital's chief administrator Abhishek Roshan urged everyone to have their eyes examined every six months in view of the increasing prevalence of diabetes in recent days, which is causing severe eye diseases.

Chief of the Municipality's health section, Bindeshwar Chaudhary, emphasised the need to raise awareness as timely eye examinations can prevent blindness.(RSS)
