Mongolia attracts over 600,000 foreign tourists in first 8 months of 2025

ULAN BATOR, Sept. 9: Mongolia attracted a total of 600,699 foreign tourists in the first eight months of 2025, according to official data released by the Mongolian Tourism Organisation on Tuesday.

During the period, the majority of foreign tourists were visitors from China, Russia and South Korea, the data showed.

Currently, Mongolia's economy depends heavily on the mining sector and on the export of mineral resources. Tourism promotion is seen as one of the pillars for diversifying the country's economy and increasing the competitiveness of its tourism.

According to the country's Ministry of Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth, the Mongolian government has decided to continue the "Years to Visit Mongolia" tourism program until 2028 to promote the development of four-season tourism in the country.

By 2028, Mongolia plans to receive a total of 2 million foreign tourists as part of its policy to support the tourism sector under the official motto "Go Mongolia."

Mongolia recorded a total of 727,400 inbound tourist visits by foreign passport holders in 2024, earning 1.6 billion U.S. dollars from the tourism sector.
