By Govinda Sharma,Banke, Aug. 22: Around 3,000 houses, constructed under the Janata Awas Karyakram, were handed over to the beneficiaries in Banke and Bardiya districts

According to Ram Ashray Sah, Chief of the Urban Development and Building Office, Banke, since the establishment of the provincial government and the operation of the office, 3,100 houses have been constructed under the Janata Awas Karyakram in Banke and Bardiya.

Of them, about 3,000 houses have already been completed over nearly seven years, he added.

Chief Sah said, “We are working with the plan to complete the construction of all houses under our responsibility within the current fiscal year and hand them over to the concerned beneficiaries.”

As per the office, 1,800 houses in Banke and 1,300 houses in Bardiya were handed over by the federal government for construction.

Out of these, only 104 houses remain to be built, including 56 in Banke and 48 in Bardiya. The office aims to complete the remaining construction and hand over the houses within the current fiscal year.

The houses in Banke and Bardiya have been built for the targeted Dalit and disadvantaged communities. A committee led by the elected provincial assembly member of the respective province is responsible for selecting the families to benefit from the programme.

The provincial government launched this programme on December 4, 2018. Before that, the federal government had been implementing the Janata Awas Karyakram.

Each beneficiary family receives Rs. 350,000, including contingency support, for the construction of a house.
