By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 19: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gifted six strike vehicles, military horses and some critical medical care equipment to the Nepali Army amidst a special function held at the Army Headquarters on Monday.
At a ceremony, Secretary Misri handed over six light strike vehicles that come in use for military purposes.
According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Army Headquarters, the vehicles were handed over to the army as per the prescheduled programme and decision of the Government of Indian.
On the occasion, Foreign Secretary Misri handed over two military dogs for breeding purposes. Further, Misri gifted five military horses as well, amidst the same function held this morning at the Army Headquarters.
Additionally, Misri handed over some critical care medical equipment. Before the handover, he held talks with the Chief of the Army Staff, Ashok Raj Sigdel, at the Headquarters.
According to army sources, discussions were held on bilateral interests and military relations.
Foreign Secretary Misri, who arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, extended an invitation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to visit India.
On Sunday, he called on President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and main opposition leader and Chairperson of the Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
He also met Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba the same day. Wrapping up his visit, Misri returned to India on Monday.
The Nepali Army and the Indian government believe that the handing over of items reflects the close relationship between the two armies and robust defence cooperation. During the ceremony, the Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Sirvastava and other officials were present.
