PM Oli briefed on extension of Digital Nepal Framework

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 19: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday received a briefing on the timely expansion of the Digital Nepal Framework 2019 and the progress of Nepal Telecom.

Prime Minister Oli has been highlighting the need to accelerate good governance, development, and prosperity through the use of information and communication technology (ICT). 

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretary Radhika Aryal, and Acting Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, Sabina Maske Pradhan, briefed Prime Minister Oli about the timely expansion of the Digital Nepal Framework, 2019, Prime Minister Oli’s Secretariat informed. 

In the context of the recent approval of the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025 by the government of Nepal, the Ministry informed the Prime Minister that groundwork has begun for further expansion and timely revision of the Digital Nepal Framework. 

The proposed Digital Nepal Framework 2.0 (FAST) has been prepared, which incorporates the concepts of digital ecosystem infrastructure, accessibility, capacity building, and transformation.

In this new framework, areas such as social security, disaster management, and climate change have been added. Earlier, the framework included the sectors of agriculture, education, health, tourism, finance and governance. 

For its implementation, a Digital Transformation Council has been proposed under the chairmanship of the Minister for Communication to set priorities, monitor, and report on Digital Nepal. 

The new framework will be implemented once it receives Cabinet approval.

During his previous tenure, Prime Minister Oli, with the vision of good governance, development, and prosperity, had endorsed the Digital Nepal Framework 2019.
