By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has directed officials to work towards fulfilling the objectives set by the budget for the current fiscal year.
Addressing the meeting of the Ministry-level Development Action Committee on Friday, DPM Paudel directed to work actively from now on to meet the targets, including economic growth, capital expenditure and revenue collection, as this year's budget is realistic.
Stating that the targets cannot be met with mediocre efforts, he said that it is necessary to change the working style and work in a dedicated manner to achieve the goals set by the budget.
He urged people to play a positive role in solving problems and focus on results rather than getting involved in problems.
Stating that ordinances, policies and programmes have been introduced to boost the morale of the private sector and dialogue has been enhanced, Deputy Prime Minister Paudel stressed the need for further study and research in this regard.
Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission Prof. Dr. Shiva Raj Adhikari said that although the economic indicators are good, it is necessary to increase 'economic confidence' in the private and public sectors.
Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel said that the government should make a 'big push' in certain areas to make the economy more dynamic when interest rates are low.
Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya said as past goals and results have been made public, there is a need to focus on work for achieving the goals.
Revenue Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Dinesh Kumar Ghimire said that the goals can be achieved only if we work diligently in implementing the programmes from now on. He pointed out the need for further reforms in revenue administration.
Shyam Prasad Bhandari, Spokesperson and Chief of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Finance, said that the economic indicators are positive and that further coordination and facilitation will be prioritised in the coming days.
The participants of the meeting expressed the view that further results can be achieved by immediately resolving the problems and challenges that arise during the implementation of the programmes.
