By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that a nationwide campaign for good governance must be launched to fulfil the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.”
Prime Minister Oli said so while speaking at a programme organised at Singha Durbar on Tuesday to mark the 24th anniversary of the National Vigilance Centre.
Prime Minister Oli said that, in line with the directive principles of the constitution, there should be no shortcomings in government’s responsibility to provide services to the people without engaging in corruption, irregularities, or delays.
The event was attended by the Chief Secretary of the government, the Chief of Army Staff, all secretaries, and heads of security agencies.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli emphasised that cleanliness, transparency, and service delivery are the rights of citizens, and all state agencies must be equally active in ensuring these rights. He said that those engaged in corrupt or unethical conduct, even if in positions of power, would not get genuine respect from others.
“Investigate and monitor without favour. Speak openly about issues in such meetings. Even if you find weaknesses in me, bring them forward. If anyone tries to misuse my name to carry out wrongdoings, do not entertain it, reject them outright,” the Prime Minister said.
“Do not engage in the acts that humiliate your subordinates or degrade you publicly. Do not lose respect in the eyes of others or in your own eyes. In doing so, contribute to strengthening good governance,” he added.
He urged everyone to be firmly committed to ensuring that no one is left behind, as the United Nations advocates for people’s basic needs, and dignified and secure life. “To transform Nepal into a developed country, we must make a firm commitment to good governance and move forward quickly. There are attempts to stir dissatisfaction and create chaos. To prevent that, we must educate people with knowledge and raise awareness for good deeds”
He further said, “Those who go astray from their path must be brought under the control of the law,” the Prime Minister said.
“There is no reason for naturally fertile and knowledge-rich Nepal to lag in development. We must now work to eliminate all forms of backwardness from the country,” he said, adding, “I believe that in this process, the Vigilance Centre will play an active role.”
