BY THAKUR PRASAD ACHARYA,Myagdi, July 25: A traditional ‘falcha’ (resting pavilion) has been constructed at Pustakalaya Chowk in Beni Bazaar, the district headquarters, to offer a welcoming space for rest and social gatherings.

The falcha, built in the traditional Newari architectural style using Bhaktapur bricks and wood, has added a unique charm to the area.

Utilising previously vacant public space, Beni Municipality undertook the construction to provide a resting place for locals and tourists visiting the town.

According to Mayor Surat KC, the municipality allocated Rs. 1.3 million from last fiscal year's budget to complete the initial construction. “With the falcha now in place, it is expected to ease daily movement and provide a comfortable resting spot for the community and visitors alike,” he said.

Ward Chairman of Ward No. 7 of Beni Municipality, Ramesh Kumar Shrestha, said that the total estimated cost of the project is around Rs. 2 million. “We’ve completed the construction with Rs. 1.3 million allocated last year, but an additional Rs. 600,000 to 700,000 is required to fully complete the structure,” he said.

“In the current fiscal year, we will manage the remaining budget to complete the falcha, including fixing of traditional wooden windows (aankhijhyal) and other remaining structures.”

He added that the falcha will greatly benefit people coming from nearby villages to the market, offering them a convenient place to rest.
