Kathmandu, April 24: A 30-day in-service training programme on ‘Leadership and Good Governance’ for government officials of Lumbini Province recently concluded in Nepalgunj.
Organized by the Provincial Centre
for Good Governance (PCGG), Nepalgunj, the training aimed to strengthen
capacity of assistant-level public service employees, thereby enhancing service
delivery at the provincial and local government levels.
In his address to the closing
session, acting Principal Secretary of the Office of the Chief Minister and
Council of Ministers (OCMCM), Lumbini Province, Ishwor Paudel, emphasized that
institutions like PCGG are pivotal in advancing federalism in Nepal by
equipping employees and elected representatives with the necessary skills to
address emerging challenges effectively.
Province Secretary and Provincial
Programme Director of the Provincial and Local Governance Support Programme
(PLGSP), Kabindra Nepal highlighted that the training would foster ethical
behavior and enhance the competitive performance of provincial and local
governments in delivering services.
Likewise, Executive Director of
PCGG, Ujeer Prasad Neupane, shared that the training was designed to boost the
capabilities of assistant-level officials, enabling more effective governance
and improved public service outcomes.
A total of 81 government officials
from various provincial offices and local governments within Lumbini Province
had participated in the event.
The training, supported by Province
and Local Governments Support Project (PLGSP), covered seven key modules,
including federalism and capacity building, provincial office operation and
management, financial operating systems, service delivery, good governance and
planning, development management, gender inclusion, biodiversity, health and
yoga, and legal frameworks.
Sharing perspectives from the
participants' side, Dr. Nalil Nath Tiwari, an eighth-level government officer,
noted, “The training serves as a milestone in enhancing our ability to address
practical challenges in office management and public service delivery.”
Similarly, Renu KC, a sixth-level official from a local government office,
shared, “The training has strengthened our capacity to become champions of good
governance within our work environment". (RSS)
