Kaski Correspondent,Kaski, Apr. 4: A musical evening featuring senior folk duet singer and composer Purushottam Nyaupane is set to take place on Friday at Pokhara City Hall. The event is being organised by the National Folk and Duet Song Academy Nepal and will commence at 3 pm.
It has been announced that 18 songs by Purushottam Nyaupane will be performed during the evening. Additionally, a documentary based on Nyaupane’s life will also be screened, according to Rita Thapa Magar, the President of the Academy. She further stated that entry to the event is free of charge.
Nyaupane is renowned for numerous hit songs such as Sararara Pani Ghattama, Aina Herera, and Runchha Ni Man Kina.
Born in 1972 in Syangja, Nyaupane has made a significant contribution to Nepali folk duet music, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. Having dedicated nearly 35 years to the field, Nyaupane has recorded over 1,000 songs. His musical journey began in 1989 with the song Balam Devithan.
Over the years, Nyaupane has mesmerised audience not only across almost all districts of Nepal but also in various countries abroad. He has received numerous honours, awards and accolades, including the Music Nepal Award three times consecutively.
Additionally, he has served as the former central president of the Academy and is currently employed as a Programme Officer at Radio Nepal’s Provincial Broadcasting Office in Pokhara.
Explaining the choice of venue, Nyaupane stated that Pokhara was selected due to its proximity to his birthplace and the deep connections he holds there.
With the motto “Honouring veterans and encouraging new talent,” the Academy has been hosting annual musical evenings dedicated to esteemed folk duet artists. Last year, it organised the ‘Narayan Rayamajhi Musical Evening 2023’. The upcoming event is a continuation of this tradition, said Magar.
Founded in 2001, the National Folk and Duet Song Academy Nepal has been actively working towards the preservation, promotion, and development of folk music, songs, and art. The Academy currently operates with one provincial committee, one Kathmandu Valley coordination committee, 77 district-level committees, and 10 international branch committees.
