Mahottari, Jan 2: The Madhes province government has arranged scholarships to increase women's access to higher education.
Scholarship has been arranged for
the daughters of the most poor and marginalized communities of the province to
pursue higher education.
According to the Madhes Province
Education Directorate, scholarships will be provided to Dalit, Muslim, poor and
talent girl students of the province.
Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh
has said that the scholarship has been arranged to ensure that meritorious girl
students from marginalized and disadvantaged families are not deprived of
higher education.
He told RSS that the directorate
would complete the procedural work and scholarships would be given to the girl
students. Dalit, Muslim, poor and genius students from all the eight districts
of the province will get the scholarship.
According to the Directorate, 1,071
applications have been received for the scholarship. In the scholarship, Rs
25,000 and Rs 35,000 will be given annually as educational fees in two
categories, general and technical.
Rs 35,000 will be provided for
technical education and Rs 25,000 for humanities, commerce and education. The
province government has allocated Rs 15 million for the scholarship in the
current fiscal year.
The status of education in Madhes
is weak compared to other provinces. According to the National Census-2078, the
literacy rate of Madhes is 63.5 percent and the female literacy rate is 43.2
