By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 15: The police have been investigating the Nirmala Pant murder after rape case through a new process for a month now by forming a separate committee under the organisation.
The investigation into the rape and murder case of 13-year-old Pant of Bhimdutta Municipality in Kanchanpur had been started a month ago through a new process, said officials at the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Thursday.
The investigation has been carried out by forming a team under the command of CIB's AIG Deepak Thapa.
CIB Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati has said that the investigation has been started through the new process. The investigation team includes AIG Thapa, Spokesperson Bogati and SSP Bhupendra Khatri. Bogati said, "We are investigating further. We are going to grill. Now we are reviewing the report from the beginning."
A man (Nawaraj Aryal) from Gorkha who gave controversial statements in a television interview about Nirmala was arrested on Wednesday and released on Thursday. Rishi Dhamala, who interviewed him, has also been grilled.
It has been six years since Pant was raped and murdered. The body of Nirmala, who went to her friend Roshni Bam's house on July 26, 2018 was found the next morning in a sugarcane field on the bank of a river in Salghari.
After the incident, there was a long protest demanding action against the culprits. The police detained dozens of people suspected to have been involved in the incident and investigated. But no result came out.
