Gulmi, Nov. 6: In Gulmi, 13 additional postal offices have been closed. Of the 61 additional postal offices under the District Postal Office, Gulmi, 13 have been shut down.
Postal Officer Khet Bahadur Khatri informed that the government implemented the Additional Postal (Fifth Amendment) Rules 2023, leading to the closure of these offices.
As part of Nepal's restructuring of the postal system for the fiscal year 2023/24, the government began to enforce a policy of 'one postal office per municipality,’ with the initial step focusing on closing additional postal offices. Accordingly, three types of employees working in these additional offices; postal representatives, mail carriers and letter distributors, will retire mandatorily upon reaching 58 years of age, with their positions automatically abolished.
Among the 179 employees working in these additional postal offices, 83 have now retired. According to Postal Officer Khatri, these retirees were given a farewell along with all the benefits provided by the government.
The closed offices include those in Myalpokhari, Durbar Devisthan, Jubung, Marbung, Darling, Paundi Amarai, Khadgakot, Johang, Hardineta, Hunga, Gwadi, Arlangkot and Arkhale. The assets and properties, both movable and non-movable, of these closed additional postal offices have been managed by the District Postal Office and respective municipality postal offices.
Under the District Postal Office, there are now 11 postal offices and 48 additional postal offices in various locations.
Khatri informed that in the last fiscal year, the district received the highest volume of postal imports, with 51,417 items received from various districts and 2,303 from foreign countries. A total of 8,787 items were sent to other districts and 51 items were exported internationally.
