Rains and floods damage paddy crops in Nawalpur

By Bomlal Giri,Nawalpur, Sept. 30: Due to incessant rains for two days, there has been a huge loss in agricultural crops in Nawalpur. 

Chief of Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Nawalpur Kul Prasad Tiwari said that paddy crops planted in an area of nearly 700 hectares of land in Nawalpur were destroyed due to the rains.

He, however, said that the process of colleting actual data of losses of agricultural crops has started from Sunday. 

"The rains have damaged every area, it seems that the paddy that has reached the ripe stage has been damaged the most," said Tiwari. "The data collection work has been started from today onwards in the field."

He said that paddy crops planted in different areas of Gaindakot Municipality, Kawasoti, Madhyabindu, Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality have been damaged. 

According to him, the floods caused more damage to paddy crops planted in Amaltari, Kawasoti-17, Baghkhor and Nandapur, Sehari, Sitapur, Bhutaha, Baguwan, Prasauni and Gaindakot areas of Madhyabindu Municipality.

The flood has caused huge losses even in the fish farms. Tiwari said that many ponds were in the lower coastal area and the fish reared in those ponds were damaged. 

Similarly, the flood has damaged vegetables, lemons, bananas and other fruits and vegetable farms.

Meanwhile, 1,937 people of 641 flooded houses have been rescued in Nawalpur. 

According to Chief District Officer of Nawalpur Arun Pokhrel, 582 people were rescued from various places in Gaindakot Municipality, 355 from Madhyabindu and 275 from Kawasoti and relocated to different places.

He said that 302 people from the Nepal Police, 145 people from the Armed Police Force and 82 people from the Nepali Army have been deployed at the field level for the rescue. 

There has been no loss of life in the district due to the flood.
