By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Apr.15: A complicated heart surgery has been performed on a pregnant woman at Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center (MCVTC).

According to the senior cardiologist of MCVTC Dr Anil Bhattarai, a complex heart surgery has been performed in a pregnant woman at the hospital.

Complicated heart surgery was done on a 22-year-old woman who had 35 weeks of pregnancy from Nagarkot four days ago.

Dr Bhattarai said that she was brought to the hospital when the main vein of the heart was about to be ruptured.

He said, "We have performed complex heart surgery on a 35-week pregnant woman under my leadership performed surgery."

He said that a team of gynaecologists took the 35-week-old fetus out and a cardiologist performed the surgery. This is considered to be a high-risk surgery all over the world.

The 22-year-old patient has been transferred to the ward on Thursday and the health condition is stable.

It would have been difficult to save both mother and baby if it was delayed to bring her to the hospital as there was a chance of veins rupturing.
