Another Russian region declares emergency as Ukraine offensive enters second week

BBC, Aug 14: The governor of Russia's Belgorod region has declared a state of emergency, as Ukraine's incursion into the country enters a second week

Vyacheslav Gladkov says daily Ukrainian shelling is destroying homes and killing civilians, and Russia's defence ministry says it shot down 117 Ukrainian drones over several regions overnight

Ukraine launched its surprise attack into the Kursk region on 6 August and says it now controls 74 towns and villages there

It is Ukraine's deepest and most significant incursion into the country since Moscow's full-scale invasion began

Putin has accused Ukraine of "committing crimes" against Russian people and said Kyiv would receive what he called a "worthy response"
