BY THAKUR PRASAD ACHARYA,Myagdi, July 4: Prakash Secondary School in Beni has provided hair-cutting training to its students. The school conducted training for students from grades 7 to 10 under the practical learning ‘We Can, We Will’ programme of Beni Municipality.

According to Beni Municipality Mayor Surat KC, the municipality has been organising various programmes to provide practical and life skills to students, recognising the importance of academic knowledge and practical and vocational skills.

Lekh Bahadur Hamal, headmaster of Prakash Secondary School, informed that the training was very beneficial. He said, “Within two weeks of the training, students have already developed skills of hair cutting.” The school conducts two hours of training daily after regular classes.

Training instructor Abhishek Shrestha said that the students who found it difficult to hold and use scissors initially had gradually mastered cutting hair. He said, "At present, students up to class 10 have learned to cut their hair. As the students of class 11 and 12 also want to take the training, there is a plan to conduct the training for them as well.”

Saruna Pun, a student from class 8, who aims to become a beautician in the future, said that she enrolled in the training to learn hair cutting skills.

Headmaster Hamal said that the training also aimed to develop students' interests, capabilities and competencies beyond regular academics.

In the current fiscal year, Beni Municipality has allocated Rs. 100,000 to each of the 16 community secondary schools for conducting various skill-based training programmes under the ‘We Can, We Will’. These programmes include painting, plumbing, house wiring and hair-cutting training among others. Students who have received this training have also been involved in addressing community issues related to household and local maintenance.

Mayor KC said the municipality had signed agreements with schools that had chosen training fields according to students' interests. He informed that the programme was conducted to make students self-reliant upon graduating from grade 12. He also pointed out the necessity of practical education along with theoretical knowledge.
