13 community schools in Tanahun, 3 in Humla have zero pass rate

By Amar Raj Naharki/ Rajan Rawat,Tanahun/Humla,The recently published Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results have revealed a concerning trend in the education sector, with over half of the examinees nationwide disqualified to study grade 11.

Tanahun district reflects this troubling outcome, as thirteen community schools in the district reported a zero per cent pass rate.

Out of the 170 community schools in the district, 13 schools have reported a zero per cent pass rate, said the Information Officer of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Bishwo Prakash Regmi. 

According to Regmi, two community schools in Shuklagandaki Municipality have recorded a zero percent pass rate. 

A total of 19 students from Saraswoti Secondary School in Ward No. 1 and five students from Mahendra Secondary School in Ward No. 11 appeared for the SEE exam, and none of them passed.

Similarly, 15 students from Adarsha Saraswati Secondary School in Ward No. 5 of Bhanu Municipality appeared for the exam, and none of them passed.

The results of two schools in Byas Municipality have also shown a zero percent pass rate. Amarsingh Secondary School in Ward No. 11 and Khulla Secondary School in Dharampani, Ward No. 1, both witnessed a zero per cent pass rate.

Meanwhile, three community schools in Ghiring Rural Municipality, including Deepak Secondary School in Baidi of Ward-1, Rastriya Secondary School in Ward-2 and Mahendra Jyoti Secondary School in Gadaulitar have zero per cent pass rate.

A total of 18 students of Deepak, 19 of Rastriya and 24 students of Mahendra Jyoti appeared the SEE school. 

The two community schools in Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality, Kanyadevi Secondary School in Ward-6 and Chimkeshwori Secondary School in Ward-4, both reported a zero percent pass rate. 

A total of 19 students from Kanyadevi and 14 students from Chimkeshwori appeared in the SEE exam. Whereas, one community school of Rishing Rural Municipality has also reported a zero per cent pass rate. 

Mahendrodaya Secondary School of Ward 5 reported a zero percent pass rate. A total of 14 students appeared for the exam. 

Likewise, Shiva Secondary School in Bandipur Rural Municipality-3 also reported a zero percent pass rate, with a total of 17 students appearing for the exam.

Uddhav Raj Kattel, the head of the unit, mentioned that the results could not be improved due to the teachers' inability to focus on adopting modern methods such as smart TVs, smart boards and other advanced teaching techniques, as well as raising awareness among parents.

According to Kattel, 42 per cent of students in the district have passed the exam. Out of the 5,364 students who appeared the SEE, including 5,231 in general and 133 in technical categories, 42 per cent have passed the exam. 

A total of 2,178 students from the general category and 54 students from the technical category passed the exam.

Meanwhile, Ranjila Chhetri of Shaheed Homraj Lohani Sharada Shiksha Sadan Secondary School in Bhanu Municipality-2 became the first in Tanahun to achieve a GPA of 4.

In the district, 235 students achieved an A+ grade, 707 students scored between 3.2 to 3.6 GPA, 382 students attained a GPA between 2.4 to 2.8, 18 students earned a GPA between 2.0 to 2.4, and one student received a GPA between 1.6 to 2.0.

Two Schools in Humla report zero pass rate 

Two schools in Humla, the mountainous district, have reported a zero per cent pass rate in this year’s SEE exam. None of the examinees who appeared the exam from those schools have passed.  

Yogesh Ale Mgar, acting head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit said of the 27 schools of the district, two have reported zero per cent pass rate. 

Sallaghari Secondary School of Aadanchuli Rural Municipality-5 and Sita Secondary School of Kharpunath Rural Municipality-4 have reported a zero per cent pass rate. A total 51 students of Sallaghari and 19 students of Sita have appeared the SEE exam. 

However, a total of 10 students out of 31 who appeared SEE under the technical category have passed the exam. 

Meanwhile, Mahatara, a resident of Kalkhe in Adanchuli Rural Municipality-1, scored the highest GPA in the SEE. She is a student of Gyanodaya Secondary School.

Similarly, Biraj Bhandari, a student of the same school, stood second in the district with a GPA of 3.86, while Mission Raj Rokaya, a student of Himjyoti Secondary School in Sarkegadh, stood third with a GPA of 3.82.
