Baniyani (Jhapa), June 24: Blacktopping of the six-kilometer road along the Birtamod-Sanishchare road section in Jhapa at the cost of Rs 155 million.
In the first phase, around one and
a half kilometers of road has been blacktopped from the bridge at Arjundhara-6,
Mahanandachowk, said Ujjwal Khatiwada, engineer at the Road Division Office,
Damak. "The road is being constructed as per the multi-year plan", he
said, adding that the work could be completed within three to four days if the
weather permits.
The 500-metre road from Tata
Showroom in Birtamod to Mahananda Chowk will have a width of 15 metres while
the rest will be seven metres.
Locals had been blocking the road
for the past three months citing delay in the construction of the road. The
locals turned happy with the commencement of road construction.
Mayor of Arjundhara Municipality,
Baldev Gomden Tamang said the blacktopping of the road has started under the
title 'Operation Election Strategic Road'. "The locals were facing a lot of
problems due to lack of blacktopping of the road," he said, adding,
"The blacktopping has started with the joint initiative of all
stakeholders".
The construction company had won
the contract for the blacktopping of the road at a cost of Rs 155 million. (RSS)
