Empower Women Thru Yoga

blog

"Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient tradition." It is one of the best holistic exercises that keeps our bodies flexible and healthy and energises our minds and souls. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit, which means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness. India presented the draft resolution that established the International Day of Yoga. Recognising its global appeal, the United Nations declared June 21, 2014, the International Day of Yoga. According to the United Nations, “This year marks the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Women's Empowerment.” Its goal is to transform yoga into a widespread movement that emphasises women’s well-being and promotes global health and peace.

Female empowerment aims to create a society in which all women can make their own choices and are able to act with confidence. Through regular yoga practice, women can not only tone their bodies but also cultivate a sense of mental resilience and determination, empowering them in various stages of their lives. Yoga's focus on mindful breathing, meditation, and gentle movement helps calm the nervous system, lower stress hormone levels, and promote a sense of inner peace.

We are so busy in our daily lives that our schedules have damaged our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. With our unhealthy routines and busy schedules, taking time out to exercise looks somewhat impossible. So, to highlight the many benefits of yoga practice on a global scale, International Day is celebrated. As a mental, physical, and spiritual discipline, yoga is now performed in many different ways all around the world and is becoming more and more well-liked. The ancient practice of yoga is widely known to balance an individual’s body and mind.

The resolution notes “the importance of individuals and populations making healthier choices and following lifestyle patterns that foster good health.” In this regard, the World Health Organisation has also urged its member states to help their citizens reduce physical inactivity, which is among the top ten leading causes of death worldwide and a key risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes.

In conclusion, yoga is more than just a workout. Yoga goes beyond the physical realm of a workout. It's a practice that integrates physical postures, breathwork, mindfulness, and potentially even a spiritual connection, leading to a more balanced, empowered, and fulfilling life.
