India's cooperation vital for expediting IT Decade: Minister Sharma

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 14: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that Nepal-India cooperation is essential to move forward the “Information and Technology Decade” that was announced in the budget speech of the fiscal year 2024/25. 

In a meeting with the ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava today at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Minister Sharma said that there will be a higher level of cooperation between the two countries for the development of information and technology.

In the meeting, Minister Sharma congratulated the newly formed government of India and expressed her sincere faith in strengthening of the relationship between the two neighbours.   

She informed about “The IT Decade” announced in the federal government budget 2024/25 to Ambassador Srivastava and acquainted him of the essence of India’s cooperation to move forward. 

In response, Ambassador Srivastava said that India is ready for cooperation and assistance to Nepal.

Srivastava shared that India's cooperation covered three aspects specifically in enhancing skill and training, construction for digital infrastructure, and connecting linkage with the private sector of India who have invested in the IT startup.   

The ambassador informed the minister that India has made it easy for the Nepalis residing in India to get mobile SIM as per the past agreement. He added that India will address a variety of problems being noticed including the bandwidth. 

The officials of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present in the meeting.
