Mandala Theatre stages Masinya

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 27: A special performance of the play ‘Masinya’ was staged at Mandala Theatre in Thapagaun on Wednesday.

 Distinguished figures from the realms of literature, art, music, politics and communication watched the play. 

The theatrical production vividly depicts the struggles faced by the Tamang community, providing a glimpse into their lifestyle, culture, rhythm, and surroundings.

 After watching the play, Rajendra Mahato, a senior leader of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, expressed that the play was not merely a theatrical presentation, it embodied the pains experienced by the community.

 Mahato urged the younger generation to comprehend this pain and emphasised the need to combat such injustices.

 He insisted that the play should be showcased nationwide to advocate for the recognition of the community’s rights, highlighting what he perceives as state-sponsored discrimination against the Tamang community through the label ‘Masinya.’

The potency of drama in raising public awareness was stressed by Janajati leader Ang Kaji Sherpa. He urged the artists to stage the play within the Tamang community and among indigenous Nepalis living around the world.

Mohan Gole, Member Secretary of Tamsaling Sangharsh Committee and chairperson of Nepal Tamang Ghedung, announced plans to take the play to all seven provinces as part of an awareness campaign.

 Written by Raju Syangtan, Laxmi Rumba, and Rabat, the play is conceptualised and directed by Buddhi Tamang and Sonam Lama. 

The staging will continue from Thursday to February 11. Rupesh Tamang, Rohni Lama, Sunil Tamang, Bishnu Moktan, Ramila Moktan, Rabin Dong, Bikas Lama, Sheetal Thokar, Bijay Nepal and Nirmal Saud among others are acting.
