Help Nepal, Police crowned National Club League champions

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 16: Nepal Police Club and Tiptop Help Nepal were crowned champions in the 7th PM Cup NVA National Club League held in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Nepal Police Club defeated Nepal APF Club 3-1 to clinch the women’s league title at NSC Covered Hall. 

Police, who topped the league round to enter the final, took the first set 25-12 but lost second to APF 21-25. Police fought back to claim two straight sets by 25-23 and 25-19 and lifted the title worth Rs. 600,000. 

Runners-up APF was satisfied with a cash prize of Rs. 300,000. New Diamond Youth Sports Club and Tribhuvan Army Club ended the tourney in third and fourth place. Poonam Chand of Police was declared the best female player of the tournament and bagged Rs. 35000.

Police Club’s Shanti Kala Tamang (Libero), Kamala Pun (Setter) and Usha Bhandari (Spiker) were named best in their respective categories. Sumitra Regmi was named best Emerging player while Rupesh Bista was declared best coach for leading the Police to a title win in the women’s league. Saraswoti Chaudhary of APF and Sangam Mahato of Army were named best server and best blocker respectively. 

Similarly, Tiptop Help Nepal Sports Club recorded a 3-1 win over Nepal Police to win the men’s title remaining unbeaten in the league. 

Help Nepal won the first set 25-19 but gave away the second set easily to Police 11-25. After the second set loss, Help Nepal came up with an improved performance to bag the third and fourth sets with an identical  score of 25-18.

The title victory earned Help Nepal a cash prize of Rs. 600,000. Runners-up Police took home Rs. 300,000.

Army and APF occupied third and fourth positions in the men’s league. 

Aimal Khan, a Pakistani recruit of Help Nepal, took the best player’s title worth Rs. 35,000 in the men’s category.  

The winning team’s Top Bahadur Thapa (Libero), Adnan Khan (Setter), Majhar Ali (Spiker) and Utsab Khadka (Coach) were adjudged best in their respective categories. 

APF’s Hemanta Malla and Army’s Durga Bahadur Khadka were named best in the server and blocker department. Rabin Chand of Police became the emerging player of the tournament.
