BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Bajura, Mar. 28: The paddy field in Badimalika Municipality-8 of Martadi, the headquarters of Bajura, is turning into concrete jungle. Though old generation had been preserving jiulos (paddy fields, it is gradually being covered with houses after the new generation started selling lands.

According to the locals, after Martadi people started selling the field to outsiders, they started building houses over there.  Kabita Rawal, a local, said, "Earlier, most of the locals used to cultivate paddy. But now, new generation is doing business after selling land."

She said that there was once more than 100 ropanis of paddy field in Martadi. After the locals from Budhiganga, Triveni, Chededaha, Budhinanda, Gumauli and other places migrated to Martadi, the field gave way to concrete houses.

Due to easy access to infrastructures, services and businesses, people from other parts of the district started migrating to Martadi. Locals from lower areas now have been buying daily necessities from local markets in Dab bazzar, Ritha, Belamandu, Falasain, Attichaur and other places. Martadi is the main market of Gaumul, Budhinanda, Swamikartik, Jaganath, Himali and other local places of the district.

Though daily necessities are easily available in other markets, people prefer to buy in Martadi. Even the local levels of the district go to Martadi for government work.
