Kathmandu, Dec 17: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has suggested that the journalists should be aware to the attempts taking place to limit the media.
Addressing the Second Annual General Assembly of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Corporate Province Committee here on Saturday, the former President shed light on the challenges Nepal’s journalism sector was facing.
“In a democracy, there is an independent journalism, and freedom of expression is guaranteed. But, freedom is gradually curtailed. Not only here (in Nepal), this challenge has been visible across the world,” Dr Yadav added.
He also drew the attention of Nepali journalists to back the pro-democracy struggles taking place across the world.
On the occasion, Chairman of FNJ Bipul Pokharel said that this AGM should held intense discussions on issues of labour and editorial independence.
“Due respect of labour is not guaranteed in the media. We have to review the status of editorial independence,” Pokharel added.
Likewise, Chairman of FNJ Corporate Province Committee Bal Krishna Adhikari said the AGM will review the performance of the Corporate amid the COVID-19 pandemic and discussions will be held on the development of future strategies.(RSS)
