Myagdi Fair next month

By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Beni, Dec. 10: The triennial Myagdi Fair will be held next month.The Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) is all set to organise the in Beni fair from January 12 to 21 next year to promote tourism in the district, market local products and revive the post-COVID economy.

This is the seventh edition of the fest. It was supposed to be held two years ago but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MCCI organises the Myagdi fair every three years to coincide with Maghe Sankranti, which is a time for great celebration in the district.

According to the Chamber, the fair, officially titled the province-level Agriculture, Tourism, Industry and Trade Fair 2079, will be held at Beni’s Khulla Manch. 

President Bel Bahadur Katuwal informed that it would focus on promoting local products, preserving art and culture, attracting tourists, bringing in investment and highlighting the potential of the agriculture, hydropower, mining and animal husbandry sectors.

On the occasion, an industrial exhibition will also be held, folk songs and dance performances will be staged and sports competitions will be organised. Visitors will also get a chance to ride a helicopter, raft in the Kaligandaki River and visit a children’s park and a mini-zoo.

The Chamber informed that it has formed 39 sub-committees to prepare for the fete.

MCCI, the District Coordination Committee of Myagdi and all six of the district’s local levels are working together to make the 10-day fair a success. The Chamber estimates that the gala will generate around Rs. 12.5 million in income while costing Rs. 10 million to organise.The first Myagdi Fair was organised in 2003.
