By Our Correspondent, Rukum East, Oct 3 : The District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) has come into operation in Rukum East from Friday.
After Rukum district was divided into two – East and West, Rukum East now finally has its own disaster focal point.
The centre will be operating as a focal point for disaster prevention alongside rescue and relief programme. It has come into operation from the premises of the district’s administration office.
The centre was inaugurated amid a programme chaired by the district’s coordination committee Megh Bahadur Shrestha. The programme was attended by chiefs and deputy chiefs of all local levels in the district, representatives from security forces, political leaders and local stakeholders.
“The centre has come into operation as soon as we inaugurated it. Officers from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed for its operation,” said Tularaj Sunar, Chief District Officer of Rukum East.
According to CDO Sunar, the centre will now lead every disaster-related effort in the district.
“In lack of the DEOC, there used to be delay in rescue and relief operation in times of disasters. Since the officers at the DEOC will solely focus on disasters, it will be instrumental in saving more lives and properties,” said CDO Sunar.
