By Bishnu Prasad Pokhrel, Jhapa, Oct 3 : A 23-year-old man Chandra Bahadur Majhi of Kamal Rural Municipality-2 Milldangi has killed his mother and uncle in Jhapa on Saturday night.

Majhi killed 50-year-old mother Chandrakala and 50-year-old uncle Santa Bahadur Majhi, who were sleeping separately at the home with a khukuri, according to District Police Office Jhapa.

According to the police, Chandra Bahadur killed them while they were sleeping at around 10:00 pm.

Spokesperson for the District Police Office Jhapa Basanta Pathak said that the police arrested Majhi while he was running away with the weapon after the murder.

The police said that the mother and uncle may have been killed due to a family dispute.  According to the police involved in the investigation, it has been revealed from the preliminary investigation that the accused Chandra Bahadur, who was used to taking drugs, killed his own uncle who was sleeping with him by hitting him on the neck with a hammer.

Chandra Bahadur asked to open the door to drink water in the room of his mother and relative sister and when he came back to ask his sister not to close the door, he killed the sleeping mother by slitting her throat with a Khukuri. Police found that she was killed on the spot by cutting her throat while sleeping after turning off the light.

It is also said that the deceased uncle came home from India only a few days ago after 20 years. According to Dilip Giri, Police Sub-Inspector at the Area Police Office, Damak, it seems that the murder was planned and executed out of impulse.  The investigation showed that first the uncle and then the mother were killed using the same sharp weapon, he said.

The deceased's husband, Dhan Bahadur Majhi, along with his son, who is accused of murder, has been taken under the custody of the Area Police Office, Damak for investigation.

Husband Dhan Bahadur is said to be sleeping in another room. According to locals, the murder may have been due to suspicion and minor household disputes.

According to District Police Office Jhapa Chief and Superintendent of Police Bishwamani Pokhrel, a serious investigation has begun regarding the murder.

The police reached the spot which is three km away from the police station, Kerkha. The bodies were taken for post-mortem Sunday morning.
