382 school buildings rebuilt in Ramechhap

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT, Ramechhap, Aug 13: A total of 382 school buildings destroyed by the 2015 earthquake have been reconstructed in Ramechhap district. 

The earthquake and the subsequent aftershocks had damaged 419 schools in the district. However, 15 of the schools were merged because of small number of students in them.

Bharat Bhattarai, Head of Education Development and Coordination Unit, Ramechhap, said that the reconstruction work on the remaining 22 school buildings had also reached the final stage.

He said that Rs. 1.61 billion was spent for the reconstruction of the school buildings. Now, rebuilding of 15 of 17 schools to be  reconstructed by the Asian Development Bank through the Central Project Implementation Unit (Education) Kathmandu, and seven of nine schools to be built with the financial support from the Government of India is undergoing, he said. 

Construction of these school buildings will be completed by October/November of the current fiscal year, he informed. 

Toilets in 121 schools of the district and water projects in 77 schools have also been constructed.

In Ramechhap, 363 school buildings have to be reconstructed by the government of Nepal through the School Management Committee, 13 by the United Nations Office for Project Services with the support from the Government of Norway, nine in the financial support from the Government of India, 17 with the support from the Asian Development Bank, and two by the School Management Committee in coordination with Transparency International Ramechhap.
