Vartika Upadhyay Kathmandu, June 2: ‘Nadi Bagdaina,’ a collection of poems by Shyam Rimal, was made public amidst a function here Wednesday, coinciding with the 105th birth anniversary of Gopal Prasad Rimal.

A host of noted figures, including architect Shankar Nath Rimal, poets Harihar Adhikari (Shyamal) and Yuyutsu R. D. Sharma and author himself jointly launched the book.

Journalists, authors, poets and scholars gathered to commemorate iconic poet and playwright Gopal Prasad Rimal’s contribution to Nepali language and literature, which also shaped the political ideologies of the country.

Speaking at the function, Shankar Nath Rimal spoke about how heavily all the poems are influenced by great struggles. Harihar Adhikari (Shyamal), chairman of Rashtriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), talked about how the best and most vibrant stories come from the noise and by living in harmony with society.  He said how a poem should be easy to read but the words should carry deep meanings with it.

Sharma said how he had moved to Nepal at a young age but decided to stay here because of how impressed he was with Narayan Gopal’s songs. He dwelt on his poems and ideas in his songs. Author of the anthology Rimal said that he composed poems after being inspired by Amako Sapana of Gopal Prasad Rimal.

“A revolution just doesn’t happen with one poem, but it comes with an ideology that can have the power to change the mindset of people, and that is something that Gopal Prasad Rimal taught to the people of Nepal,” he added.
