The voting period set for election of House of Representative (HoR) and Provincial Assembly (PA) begun from -7 am to 5 pm today- has been over.
Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the voting under the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Province Assembly were concluded successfully in a peaceful manner.
The elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assembly held today were conducted in a peaceful and systematic ways except some sporadic incidents, the election observers said.
Gindra Bahadur Bogati, information officer at the Bajura District Police Office, said that the police opened fire to take the disorderly situation under control when clashes between cadres of political parties took place during the voting time.
The voters’ turnout remained around 60 per cent as per the preliminary report of the Election Commission (EC).
The voting period as set by the Election Commission- from 7 am to 5 pm today- has been over.
The PM expressed his happiness after casting his vote in Asigram Mavi polling station in Ganyapdhura Rural Municipality-1, while referring to the rumour spread by some that the election would not be held.
Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has reiterated that the present democratic-left alliance would continue for a long. Stating that all parties in the coalition have come together on the issue of continuing the alliance for a long, he said, "This alliance will continue whatever the alliance partner leads the next government."
Shaligram Sharma, EC spokesperson, said that voters who entered the polling stations as fixed by election officer by 5 pm can allow the voters to cast vote.
Voting has been halted in the 15 polling centers nationwide.
The police opened blank fire in polling stations to control the disorderly situation in districts such as Rautahat, Siraha, Chitwan, Dolakha and Bajura, according to Tek Prasad Rai, the central spokesperson of Nepal Police.
Voting is in progress under the election to the Member of House of Representatives and Province Assembly throughout the country, with enthusiastic voters eagerly queuing up at polling centers to exercise their franchise.
Voting under the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly was suspended at 15 centres, the Election Commission confirmed. The voting that kicked off at 7:00 am will conclude at 5:00 pm.
