Halji, a village in Limi of Namkha Rural Municipality-6 in Humla, is facing a high risk of avalanches and landslides. The settlement remains vulnerable throughout the year due to its location, surrounded on three sides by glacial lakes and steep, sandy slopes prone to landslides. Local Nima Tamang said the village faces threats both in winter and monsoon season. A glacial lake located to the north of the settlement has burst several times in the past, triggering avalanches that have damaged land, water mills and a power house, further increasing the risk to the village.
Two men who were injured in a stabbing incident in front of the Krishna Mandir in Patan, Lalitpur, have died. The victims, 26-year-old Srijan Nembang and his 33-year-old brother Sumit Nembang from Jhapa, were attacked with a knife on Wednesday night in Patan, Lalitpur. Both of them, who sustained critical injuries, were rushed to B&B Hospital for treatment, where they were pronounced dead.
Byas Municipality in Tanahun has generated significant revenue by classifying and selling waste at the source. Under its “waste to wealth” campaign, the municipality earned Rs. 1.713 million over the eight months from mid-July to mid-March in the current fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83). The 234th meeting of the municipal executive has also decided to move ahead with the process of acquiring land for the sustainable management of waste. Mayor Baikuntha Neupane said permission has been sought from the government for the proposed land purchase. Until approval is granted, the municipality plans to issue a public notice to lease private or public land for temporary waste management for a period of three to 10 years.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has relieved Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Dipak Kumar Sah of his duties on Thursday. Snowfall has occurred again in the Pathibhara area, a renowned pilgrimage site in Taplejung. Snow fell in the area, which lies at an altitude of 3,794 metres, following rainfall on Wednesday evening. The rain that began in the evening continued until Thursday morning. Continuous rainfall brought fresh snowfall, covering the Pathibhara temple area in white. A demolition drive using bulldozers is currently underway to remove encroachments on both sides of the main road between Dhamboji and Pushpalal Chowk along Surkhet Road, one of the busiest commercial areas in Nepalgunj. The Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Office said the encroachments were being cleared to construct dedicated footpaths, ensuring safer and more convenient movement for pedestrians. The move has, however, sparked strong protests from local business owners. Encroachment removal began after authorities marked a two-meter-wide boundary from the edge of the drainage along the busy stretch from Dhamboji Chowk to Karakando Chowk and started demolishing structures with bulldozers. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday filed a corruption case against 29 individuals, including former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and his son Resham Mahar, for their alleged involvement in gold smuggling through Tribhuvan International Airport at the Special Court. According to the CIAA, the defendants colluded with smugglers, accepting large bribes to facilitate illegal gold imports.
Box culverts along the East-West Highway, currently being expanded across Sarlahi, Mahottari, and Dhanusha districts, are set to be completed before the monsoon. The highway, which is presently two lanes, is being upgraded to a four-lane road in line with Asian standards. At locations where water previously flowed over causeways, box culverts are now being constructed to allow proper drainage.
