Three army base camps established in Gorkha

By Gun Bahadur Roka,Sulikot, Feb. 9: The Nepali Army has established three base camps in Gorkha district. Targeting election security, the camps have been set up in Gorkha Municipality, Ajirkot Rural Municipality and Arughat Rural Municipality, the Rudradhwaj Battalion of Gorkha informed.

According to the Rudradhwaj Battalion, as of Saturday, base camps have been set up at Bhacchek in Ajirkot, Armala in Arughat-3 and Namjali Danda in Gorkha Municipality. Security operations related to the elections have already begun with these camps.

Following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, President Ramchandra Paudel approved army deployment on November 27, 2025, for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. Since then, the army has prepared an integrated election security plan and conducted joint training and exercises.

Although three base camps have been established so far, all 11 local units in the district will have security bases within next 15 days. Battalion chief Birodh Rijal of the Rudradhwaj Battalion said, “Army presence will be ensured in every municipality, with local authorities providing additional security support.”

Alongside army deployment, regular patrolling has also begun in the district. During the election period, the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Election Police will operate jointly. So far, 2,283 election police personnel have been selected and are undergoing training.

According to the District Administration Office, Gorkha, 83 polling stations have been classified as highly sensitive, 130 as sensitive, and 19 as normal.

Rabi Subedi, information officer at the District Election Office, Gorkha, said there are 225 polling stations and 331 polling centres in the district. The administration said an integrated security strategy will be implemented based on the sensitivity of each polling location.
