Lumbini Lavas and Kathmandu Spikers register first wins

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 8: Lumbini Lavas and Kathmandu Spikers notched their first victories in the Everest Women’s Volleyball League (EWVL) in Pokhara on Sunday.

Lumbini edged past home side Pokhara Ninjas in a five-set thriller, winning 3–2 at the multipurpose covered hall. After suffering three consecutive defeats, Pokhara were desperate for a win. They bounced back strongly after losing the opening set 13–25, taking the second and third sets 25–23 and 25–10 to lead 2–1.

Lumbini responded with grit in the fourth set, clinching it 28–26 on set point to force a decider. They maintained control in the final set, winning 15–10 to seal their first win of the tournament. Lumbini had previously lost their opening match to Karnali Yashvis 3–1.

With this win, Lumbini earned two points, while Pokhara collected one. Pokhara had earlier lost to Karnali and Madhesh United.

In the day’s first fixture, Kathmandu Spikers defeated Madhesh United 3–1 in a four-set contest. The opening set was tightly contested, with Kathmandu edging it 26–24. Madhesh hit back in the second, winning 25–23 to level the match.

Kathmandu then regained momentum, taking the third and fourth sets 25–23 and 25–19 respectively, to secure their maiden win in the league.

Both Kathmandu and Madhesh had lost their opening matches to Lalitpur Queens. This result marks Madhesh’s second defeat.

However, they had earlier recorded a straight-sets victory over Pokhara Ninjas, winning 25–19, 25–19, and 25–23.
