NEPSE makes an impressive rebound

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 21: The stock market witnessed a remarkable surge in trading volume on Sunday, as shares worth Rs. 21.46 billion were transacted—the highest daily turnover in nearly a year. 

According to Nepal Stock Exchange, about 51,658,385 shares worth Rs. 21.46 billion of 316 companies were bought and sold in 178,176 transactions today. The transaction volume, which has been increasing for the last five trading days, crossed over Rs. 21 billion today.

On Thursday, 32,114,421 shares worth Rs. 16.30 billion were bought and sold. Shares worth Rs. 7.92 billion were sold on July 14, 2025. The market had seen a turnover of Rs. 28.27 billion on August 18, 2024. Notably, the highest ever single-day transaction occurred on August 15, 2024, with trading volume touching Rs. 29.30 billion.

In contrast, on August 21, 2025, the transaction volume dropped to Rs. 18.54 billion. After setting a record high daily turnover on August 15, 2024, lowest transaction volume was Rs. 3.02 billion on October 15, 2024.

With significant fluctuations, the benchmark of share market - NEPSE index - posted a marginal growth today. The NEPSE has increased by 0.32 points and closed at 2,870.63 points today. 

The NEPSE index increased by 138.82 points over the last week with the increment of 75.84 points on Thursday. However, the sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies decreased by 2.46 points to close at 498.03 points.

According to NEPSE, the sub-indices of hotels and tourism, others, non-life insurance, life insurance and mutual fund have increased while the sub-indices of banking, hydropower, development bank, manufacturing and processing, trading, microfinance and investment groups have decreased.

Sub-index of life insurance group posted the highest growth of 192.20 points followed by non-life insurance and hotels and tourism group whose indices increased by 179.55 points and 88.58 points respectively. Similarly, sub-index of others rose by 181.25 points and mutual fund by 0.05 points.

However, the sub-index of manufacturing and processing group decreased by 85.51 points, finance by 59.85 points and banking by 21.41 points. Similarly, the sub-index of hydropower group decreased by 15.85 points, trading by 21.42 points, development bank by 5.19 points, microfinance by 1.58 points and investment by 0.19 points.

The share price of 135 companies increased while the share price of 170 companies decreased in today’s transaction. Share price of Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Sanvi Energy Limited increased by 10 per cent each.

Similarly, share price of Trade Tower Company increased by 9.98 per cent, Shiva Shree Hydropower by 9.98 per cent and Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development Company by 9.95 per cent.

However, the share price of Samriddhi Finance Company decreased by 8.88 per cent, Goodwill Finance Limited Debenture by 7.75 per cent and Sunrise Bank Debenture 2083 by 5.86 per cent.
