Bus fares increased in Bagmati Province

Ram Mani Dahal,Hetauda, Aug. 26: Bagmati Province Government has adjusted the fares of public vehicles moving from one municipality to another. After the price hike of petroleum products, the provincial government has increased the fares of public vehicles.

The Bagmati Provincial Ministry of Labour, Employment and Transport has increased the fares by 5.3 per cent in public vehicles plying outside the Kathmandu Valley. Likewise, passengers can carry 5 kg of luggage for free but will be obliged to pay five rupees per kg in excess of it for up to 10 kg of luggage. 

The price of petroleum products was hiked on August 16, but the provincial government has adjusted the fare by publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazette only on Thursday. 

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Transportation Khagendra Poudel said that the fare of public vehicles operating in Kathmandu has been increased by 8.3 per cent. 

According to him, the fare of taxis running on petrol has been increased by 3.44 per cent per kilometre with the initial fare of Rs. 52. The fare of vehicles that transport goods has been increased by 7.7 per cent per kilometre per tonne, according to the notice. The fare of vehicles operating within Kathmandu is hiked by Rs. 1 to Rs. 3 based on the distance. 

Earlier, the Transportation Management Department had adjusted inter-province transportation fares on July 27 after the hike in petroleum products.
