By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 3: The infrastructural facilities of new building and extra activities have increased the number of students in the Bhanu Higher School (Durbar High School) and Sanskrit Secondary School (SSS) of Ranipokhari, Ratnapark.

But now, the school management is facing shortage of teachers.

Sharda Poudel, principal of the school, said that there are currently 533 students in the school.  Previously, the school had only 72 students. The new building has laboratory facilities and English medium education.

“We have set up all the infrastructural facilities in new building, so the number of students has increased markedly, but we have not subject wise vacancies of teachers and this has created problems in managing classes,” she said.

The physical infrastructure including classrooms, desks, labs, sports and learning through digital technology are the major attractions for the students.

Durbar High School operates two schools on its premises: Bhanu Higher Secondary School and Sanskrit Secondary School.

Bhanu School runs classes from playgroups to grade 10 while Sanskrit School for grade six to 12.

School management has added extra activities and classes for students to realise their potential. “We are run robotic class, Chinese class, dance, art class, karate, futsal, football and basketball in sports,” she said.

Robotic class is compulsory for grade 4-9 students, which they study one period a week with the support of Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN). Chinese class is only for grade nine students, but optional – only those interested can join this class, she said.

“We plan to run acting, music, drama, and other classes in coordination with Lalit Kala Campus and Rastriya Naach Ghar of Jamal.”

In coordination with Nepali Army, football and basketball training is also going to start at the ground of Army Headquarter from Friday, she added.

She further said that “With the upgrading facilities at the new school building, playing groups children also started to admit here and 43 children now here. The education, extra classes and sports activities are free but we have charged certain amount for playgroups, nursery kg classes’ children.”

There are 450 students at the Sanskrit School. The students have learnt here through new technology in digital board.  Digital board is facilitating entire the building’s class rooms of both schools, he said.

Student of both schools equally participated in sports and other activities. The management of Bhanu and Sanskrit School is separate but students of both equally take part in other activities.

The school has the capacity to accommodate 1,000 students with 42 classrooms. The building foundation was laid in 2018 with the building handed over to the school administration in September 2020.

After the reconstruction, the school was able to accommodate 36 students per class.
